Volkswagen iBeetle makes world debut in Shanghai

The all-new Volkswagen iBeetle, which made its global debut at Auto Shanghai 2013 during the weekend, will go on sale in early 2014 as a Coupe and Cabriolet. It's the German automaker's first vehicle in which the iPhone becomes an integrative component, replacing many conventional functions of the dashboard.

Europe remains the playground for great small cars, mostly of the hatchback variety. In fact, all of the vehicles in this comprise of a hatch. Although two are larger cars and one is a compact crossover, all would look good in a North American driveway.

Volkswagen recently unveiled a new 4-cylinder engine at its Silao, Mexico plant -- the 100th VW plant in the world -- namely a 2.0L turbocharged and direct-injected TSI.
