Irvine, California – Following the world premiere of the XK Coupe, Jaguar has announced that it will build an all-new XK convertible.
Using the same advanced aluminum body structure as the coupe, the new convertible weighs only 1705 kg (3759 lbs) and is one of the lightest cars in its segment. It will use a 4.2-litre, 300 hp V8 and a sequential shift transmission with wheel-mounted controls; it is capable of zero to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, with an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.
The triple-lined fabric roof powers up or down in less than 18 seconds, and stows fully under an aluminum tonneau cover. A rollover protection system uses two hidden aluminum hoops that deploy in the event of a pending incident. The XK convertible will be built at Jaguar's Castle Bromwich plant in England and will be available in spring 2006; pricing will follow closer to the launch.
