Detroit, Michigan - Ford showed its Freestyle "crossover" vehicle which it says "blends the aspirational looks of a sport utility vehicle, the versatility of a minivan and the confidence of an all-wheel-drive sedan."
Highlights of the Freestyle include:
7 passenger seating and dozens of seating configurations
the cargo capacity of a full-size sport utility vehicle with its seats folded
upright command seating in all three rows for easy entry and exit, comfort and maximum visibility
best-in-class second- and third-row legroom and third-row knee clearance
a standard V-6, continuously variable transmission and available all-wheel-drive system
Volvo-inspired architecture with MacPherson struts, coil-over rear shocks, aluminum dual-piston front brake calipers, rack-and-pinion steering and carefully optimized suspension geometry
frame and body structures – also inspired by Volvo – that help protect occupants in collisions
optional safety package that includes side air bags and the Safety Canopy, providing side-impact and rollover protection for all three rows of passengers.
3 trim levels: SE, SEL and top-of-the-line Limited
"Freestyle is the crossover done right. We didn’t try to adapt an existing minivan or sport utility platform. Freestyle is built from the ground up as a crossover with class-leading spaciousness, seven-passenger comfort, versatility and all-wheel-drive capability....We believe these strengths give Freestyle the strongest potential to define the crossover market - much like the Ford Explorer defined SUVs a decade ago", said Phil Martens, Group Vice President, Product Creation, Ford Motor Company

- Ford unveiled the new Five-Hundred, an upscale sedan with a roomy interior, a huge trunk, and seating positions up to four inches higher than in traditional sedans.
"With the phenomena of trucks, sport utility vehicles and crossovers in full swing, we had to take a new approach to the sedan market", said Phil Martens, Group Vice President, Product Creation, Ford North America. "We took a look at the attributes that make crossovers popular – like high-package ‘command’ seating – and sought to deliver some of those qualities in a sedan. While the industry tries to create new car-based crossovers, the Ford Five Hundred stands alone as the first crossover-based car."
With an improved Duratec 3.0 litre V6 engine, an all new continuously variable transmission or six-speed automatic, the Five-Hundred provides an "unprecedented combination of performance and economy", said a Ford news release.
Highlights of the Five Hundred include:
a contemporary, upscale design
interior volume that surpasses all others in its class
surprising cargo room with versatile, fold-down seats
optional all-wheel drive
a fuel-efficient, continuously variable transmission
a new six-speed automatic for front-wheel-drive applications
improved Duratec 30 V6 engine
safer "energy-channeling" frame and body structures by Ford and Volvo
optional safety package that includes side air bags and Safety Canopy for protection in side impacts and rollovers
