STILL EARLY BUT DURABILITY IS A WORRY...
SO NOTHING AT THIS POINT
|
 |
Lumière jaune
Our car is still new (35 km on the ODO) but at 120 km/h I am over 3000 rpm - cannot be good for fuel efficiency (they say after 1000 km on the ODO, it should get better).

Évaluation:
First, let me say that my wife and I wanted the Volkswagen TDI comfortline wagon. It is a better drive than the Elantra Touring (power, fuel efficiency, cargo space). That being said, it was not worth the premium price that they were asking! VW needs to get off their high horses and realize that the TDI is not worth the extra payout even if it is the only "cheap" diesel powerplant out there. Who cares if you have no competition! Frankly, I doubt the average person sees the merit in spending $13000 more for a TDI (vs. the top-end elantra gls sport). Yes, the TDI is more fuel efficient despite having a more powerful engine (test drive it at least!). That being said, based on my research and calculations, I would have to own the TDI for 22 years to make up this difference in price with $ savings in fuel vs the elantra touring. Consequently, we went with the Elantra Touring GLS sport (all the bells and whistles) (paid in cash, $3000 rebate plus added haggling savings). If VW was at least willing to provide the same discounts with the gas model, I would have bought the more affordable 2.5L trendline (keep in mind that this is the base model and it is still $4000 more expensive than the top line all inclusive GLS sport!). But it seems that VW has an image to maintain and they do not want to be cheapened with the likes of Hyundai. Hey VW! That's why you have Audi and Porsche! Get over yourselves. You just lost a sale and the Touring is a great car. Plus the difference in rankings by critics is not that great so why would anyone spend more for less car?? I will admit that time will tell if our Hyundai will hold together as well as our old Toyota and Honda models but from what I am reading elsewhere, it seems that I need not worry. On a side note, WE NEED MORE DIESEL CARS - VW needs competition to drive their prices down.
