Long since forgotten, the Toyota Avalon still knew how to please its owners thanks to examplary reliability, comfort and American-style luxury. Bigger, more powerful, roomier and even more luxurious, the new Avalon will easilly sway those that are looking for the goods and not prestige. For them, this will be a rational and intelligent purchase. Now offered in three trim levels (XLS, Touring and Limited), it will easily cater to discerning buyers. The new 3.5L VVT-i V6 generates 280 hp. This represents an increase of 33.3% over the previous old 3.0L V6's 210 hp. The new engine, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual mode, will make the car travel from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds.
Price: Starting from $39,900 for the base XLS model.
Availability: April 2005
Auto123.com's impressions:
Another snoringly good product from Toyota. It's not as bland as the previous Avalons thanks to sleeker lines and a more powerful powerplant. I now know what car I will retire in: When I turn 65 years old, I won't want any problems or headaches and I certainly won't want to go the dealer every other week.
Toyota Highlander Hybrid
Mid-way through 2005, the Highlander Hybrid will be commercialized. The Hybrid Synergy System is combined with the 3.3L V6 and develops 270 hp. It will be available in Limited trim only. No pricing has yet been announced.
