Concept Avenger heats up mid-sized segment

They've done it before, and they'll do it again. Dodge is set to turn the automotive market on its head with its latest concept, the Avenger. Part of a global product offensive, the Avenger concept was finished in inferno red paint with trademark Dodge styling cues when it was unveiled at the "Mondial de l'Automobile" in Paris.

It's intended to carry the Dodge brand attributes forward to a new group of consumers after a mid-sized car that is functional, fuel efficient, and safe, but moreover one that carries some visual impact and makes a statement.

Though just a concept, Dodge says that the Avenger hints at the next "D-Segment" vehicle from the American carmaker.

Trevor Creed, senior VP of design at Chrysler says "Avenger brings Dodge brand American muscle car heritage into the global mid-size car segment. It does for the global D-segment what Caliber has done in the global C-segment -- it offers a unique alternative to the competition."

With the aggressive fascia, athletic stance, sculpted lines and glaring look, you might be surprised at the concept's powerplant. Under the sleek hood is a 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine- one which could potentially be sold in other countries. It's a unique combination- but then again, that's part of what makes a Dodge a Dodge.
