Cadillac's mid-size crossover gets a makeover and hosts styling that's reminiscent of the CTS sedan. Both engines in the old model are dropped in favour of a pair of six-cylinder units.
Base models get a 3.0-litre V6 with direct injection develops about 265 horsepower, which is slightly more than the outgoing 3.6-litre V6. Higher-end SRX variants will boast a turbocharged 2.8-litre V6 that produces 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft, and will replace the 4.6-litre V8. Both engines are bolted a 6-speed automatic with manual mode, and will consume less fuel than the retiring powerplants.
The SRX will come in front-drive and all-wheel drive configurations. Available features with the new crossover includes 20-inch wheels, navigation, adaptive headlights, power liftgate, sound system hard disc and dual-screen rear-seat DVD. The new SRX is shorter, lower but wider than the old model, and can tow up to 3,500 lbs (1,588 kg).
Chevrolet's replacement for the Equinox is roughly the same size, but the 3.4-litre and 3.6-litre V6s are ditched in favour of two new powerplants. A 2.4-litre inline-4 that develops 182 horsepower and 172 lb-ft will motivate base models, while uplevel versions will get a 3.0-litre V6 with direct injection that produces 255 horses and 214 lb-ft. Both engines are mated to 6-speed automatic transmissions.
The new Equinox will continue to offer front-drive and all-wheel drive drivetrains, and available features include navigation, Bluetooth, USB port, backup camera and rear-seat DVD.
Both the SRX and the Equinox should go on sale this summer.
