The Spectra sedan is dated, and the timing couldn't be better for Kia to launch its new Forte compact.

The Forte will be powered by a choice of two engines; LX and EX models will get a 2.0-litre engine that will produce 157 horsepower and 144 lb-ft of torque, while SX models will receive a 2.4-litre inline-4 that produces 174 horsepower and 169 lb-ft. The 2.0L engine is offered with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic, while the 2.4L gets a choice of 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmissions.

Obviously influenced by Kia's Koup Concept, which Kia announced would reach production within the next year, the Forte boasts much more aggressive styling than the Spectra, and should stand out in the compact sedan crowd.

The Soul is also new and will be available in five trim levels. With the base price of $15,495, the Soul offers space for five and distinctive looks. The Soul will rival hatchbacks such as the Suzuki SX4.

Base models get a list of standard equipment: heated cloth seats, power locks, windows and mirrors, a CD player and six airbags. Uplevel models add traction and stability-control systems, A/C, keyless entry and two-tone seat trim.

The face-lifted 2009 Magentis mid-size sedan is also on display, featuring a redesigned instrument panel and powertrain revisions. The 2.4-litre inline-4 now develops 175 horsepower and 169 lb-ft of torque, while the 2.7-litre V6 generates 194 horses and 184 lb-ft.
