Cadillac’s got a new entry-level model and it’s called the ATS. Smaller than the CTS, it will also benefit from a rear-wheel drive platform, three powertrains as well as a host of features and technology.

The ATS sports sedan is said to weight less than 3,400 lbs, thanks to weight-saving techniques such as an aluminum hood, magnesium engine brackets and natural-fibre door panels. The car will also boast a 51/49 percent weight distribution, an all-important aspect for improved handling capabilities.

Its base engine will be a direct-injected, 2.5L inline-four that produces an estimated 200 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque. Also offered will be a turbocharged 2.0L four that will develop 270 hp and 260 lb-ft as well as a 3.6L V6 with an estimated 320 hp. Six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes and all-wheel drive will be available as well.

Inside, the ATS also gets LED lighting, genuine wood trim, metallic and carbon fibre trimmings as well as several color themes to choose from. Cadillac’s new touchscreen infotainment system, called CUE, will also be offered.

The 2013 Cadillac ATS will go on sale next summer.
