Drivers can turn their backs to the road in this new autonomous EV

Mercedes-Benz used the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas to host the world premiere of its new F 015 Luxury in Motion concept, a fully autonomous electric car with variable seating. The four rotating lounge chairs allow a face-to-face seat configuration, so all four passengers can use their time aboard to work, relax or communicate.

Don't worry, though: The driver can still keep his or her hands on the steering wheel and, you know, drive. The same variable seating system also makes ingress and egress easier by swinging the seats outwards 30 degrees as soon as the doors are opened.

The Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion concept sports a silver-coloured body in carbon fibre as well as futuristic lines. Inside, there are six touchscreens harmoniously integrated into the instrument panel and the rear and side panels. Passengers can interact intuitively with the connected vehicle through gestures, eye-tracking or by touching the high-resolution screens. Employing laser projection and LED displays, the F 015 Luxury in Motion concept even establishes contact with pedestrians to let them know that they can safely cross in front of the vehicle.

Of course, don't expect to see it on the road anytime soon, but it's nonetheless fascinating to watch automobiles evolve at such a rapid pace.
