The all-new, all-turbocharged 2017 MINI Countryman lineup will make its global debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 16th, and the biggest news is the addition of a plug-in hybrid variant―a first for MINI―as reported last week.
The MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 is powered by both a 3-cylinder MINI TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine and an electric hybrid synchronous motor. Total system output is rated at 221 horsepower. Fuel economy has yet to be specified, however.
Meanwhile, the base Cooper Countryman gets a 134-horsepower, 3-cylinder engine, and the Cooper S Countryman uses a 4-cylinder engine that produces 207 lb-ft of torque. The new ALL4 all-wheel drive system also makes for the most adventurous MINI ever built, the company claims, delivering traction and performance in all kinds of conditions, wet or dry, rugged or smooth, straight or curvy.
Completely redesigned and reengineered from the ground up, the new MINI Countryman remains instantly identifiable as a MINI while preserving the acceleration and go-kart driving dynamics that MINI owners love. The latest architecture enables the most spacious MINI interior ever. In fact, cargo capacity is up 30% compared to the outgoing generation.
The gasoline-powered 2017 MINI Countryman models will go on sale in March, followed by the plug-in hybrid variant in June. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
