For 2018, Subaru WRX STI and BRZ enthusiasts in Canada will have the opportunity to purchase limited-edition models with a greater focus on performance.

2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA
First, the new 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA 2018 benefits from a weight reduction (via the elimination of the spare tire, among other things) and revised suspension for improved handling. It comes standard with a carbon fibre roof panel and pedestal wing, 19” lightweight forged alloy BBS wheels in a brilliant gold and 245/35R19 Yokohama Advan Sports tires.

The 2.5L turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine under the hood gets a revised air intake, high-flow performance exhaust system, retuned ECU and stronger pistons. The 6-speed manual transmission features a modified third gear ratio paired with a short-throw shifter. All of this contributes to faster acceleration, Subaru claims.

Other changes include Cherry Blossom Red accent around the front mesh grille and new rear bumper cover, an STI front underspoiler and a black finish on the side mirrors, roof-mounted shark fin antenna and STI fender badges. Inside, the WRX STI Type RA boasts Recaro performance front seats with red bolsters and stitching, a steering wheel wrapped in Ultrasuede for better grip, an exclusive red start/stop button and a numbered plaque mounted on the centre console.

By the way, the letters RA stand for “Record Attempt,” a designation that’s been applied to various Subaru performance models since a competition-spec 1989 Legacy broke the FIA World Speed Endurance Record by clocking over 62,000 miles in 18 days and set a top speed record of 138 mph. Continuing the tradition, a race-prepared WRX STI Type RA NBR Special will attempt a Nürburgring speed record this summer.

2018 Subaru BRZ tS
Also developed by STI, the new 2018 Subaru BRZ tS promises more flexibility, stability and control. It features STI-tuned front and rear SACHS dampers and coil springs as well as flexible V-braces in the engine compartment. New draw stiffeners were added to the chassis and sub-frame to improve steering response. The BRZ tS is also equipped with 18” lightweight STI wheels (the first time that a BRZ has been offered with 18” wheels), 215/40R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires for superior grip and quicker turn-in, plus Brembo brakes at all four corners.

Exterior styling is highlighted by a ground-effect body kit and a new STI rear carbon fibre spoiler that is manually adjustable to fine-tune rear downforce. Similar to the other limited-edition model, this one sports Cherry Blossom Red accent around the front mesh grille and new rear bumper cover, as well as a black finish on the side mirrors, roof-mounted shark fin antenna and STI fender badges. The fog lights were removed and replaced with STI fog light covers.

As for the cabin, you’ll find black leather and Alcantara upholstery with contrasting red stitching and accents throughout the interior, including steering wheel, door and dash panels, knee pads, shifter and emergency brake boots. The front seats have red leather bolsters and the seatbacks are embroidered with the tS logo. The centre console was updated to a cast black finish and the front seat belts are red.

Available in WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica or Crystal White Pearl, the 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA and Subaru BRZ tS will go on sale early next year at a price that has yet to be announced.
