Toyota used the occasion of the Montreal Auto Show to introduce to Canada several models, including the 2020 Supra, 2020 Corolla sedan and first Corolla hybrid. But it also used its turn at the mike to announce Canadian pricing and trim details for the next-generation 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. We had previously received pricing for the regular versions of the revamped new RAV4 SUV.

The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid rests on the same new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) as the regular RAV4. But the Hybrid is built around the Toyota Hybrid System II – the latest iteration of the company’s gasoline-electric hybrid technology.
The RAV4 Hybrid features a 2.5-litre Dynamic Force 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine coupled to high-torque electric motor/generators and a continuously variable transmission; total output is 219 hp. Toyota’s newest All-Wheel Drive system (AWD) increases torque to the rear wheels by 30% over the previous generation’s AWD-i system.
The 2019 RAV4 Hybrid offers official fuel consumption of 6.0L/100 km city/highway combined (5.8L city; 6.3L highway). That’s an improvement over the 7.3L/100 km combined rating of the previous RAV4 Hybrid.
As for pricing, the eye-catching number is $1,400 – the difference in base price between the gas-engine RAV4 and its hybrid sibling.
The versions
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid LE is the entry-level model and comes with a 7-inch Display Audio system with Entune 3.0 Audio including Entune App Suite Connect and Scout GPS, Apple CarPlay. Other features include dual zone automatic climate control, a 4.2-inch multi-information display and LED daytime running lights.
Standard safety systems include Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 – the second generation of Toyota’s bundle of active safety technologies that enhance driver capabilities – plus the Star Safety System, eight airbags, a vehicle proximity notification system (active when a hybrid operates in EV mode), and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
In terms of visuals, this model features 17-inch alloy wheels, hybrid blue emblems, roof rails, a spoiler with LED stop lamp and Parabola LED headlamps.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE adds unique 17-inch alloy wheels, a power moonroof, eight-way powered driver’s seat, a power back door, projector LED headlamps, smart key system with push button start, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, rain sensing wipers, fog lights, five USB outlets throughout the cabin, dual chrome exhaust tips, chrome inside door handles and LED rear combination lamps.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE is the sportiest RAV4 of the lineup, with a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, unique black roof, and XSE grade exterior trim kit.
This version adds an upgraded 8-inch Display Audio system, integrated Sirius XM Satellite Radio, Entune Audio 3.0 Plus featuring Entune Safety Connect, 7-inch multi-information display, front sport seats, unique XSE grade Softex seating, a digital display rear view mirror, leather-wrapped shift knob, cargo nets, bumper protector and upgraded security system.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE with Technology Package adds a dose technology, namely a 9-speaker JBL Premium audio system with Clarifi technology, the Entune Premium Audio package with embedded navigation, a digital display rear view mirror enhanced with HomeLink, intelligent clearance sonar system, intelligent parking assist, rear cross traffic brake system and a wireless charging system for compatible smart phones.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited sits at the top of lineup. Built on the XSE+Tech Package, this model features the traditionally-tuned suspension and no fog lamps. Exterior styling cues include unique 18-inch alloy wheels, a unique front grille, chrome exterior door handles and exterior mirrors equipped with puddle lamps. The power back door has a hands-free feature.
Inside, the cabin features heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats, all wrapped in Softex leather, while the 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat includes a memory system linked to the exterior mirrors.
The new 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid goes on sale this spring at Toyota Dealers across Canada.
