With the Chevrolet Silverado and RAM 1500 getting makeovers for 2019, not to mention the F-150 that still reigns at the top of North American vehicle sales, Toyota had little choice: it had to refresh its Tundra.
What’s new
The 2019 model-year will thus bring a few changes, though they aren’t particularly substantial. It’s more accurate to call them tweaks, and they include a new package called SX, available on the SR5 4X4 double cab models equipped with the 5.7L V8.
Toyota is actually playing it close to vest with its new Tundra with SX package. We know the pricing will be $45,090, and that it will come with 18-inch black alloy wheels, a black front grille… and more. Further details will, we imagine, be forthcoming.
TRD Pro
On the bright side, the information given to the Canadian media by Toyota also outlines the changes being brought to the TRD Pro variants. 2019 will in fact see these get a substantial update, with changes including new 18-inch forged-aluminum alloy wheels as well as 2.5-inch internal-bypass FOX shocks.
The TRD Pro package also brings with it anti-fog lights by Rigid Industries, an air duct on the hood, a new retro-style grille with Toyota lettering, a high-performance dual-exhaust with black chrome tips, a TRD shift knob and trim-exclusive TRD Pro carpet mats. The TRD Pro version differs from the TRD Offroad edition via a remote reservoir suspension, premium audio system with AVN Premium Navigation, black leather seating with red stitching, TRD skid plate, spray-in bedliner and blind spot monitor, among other features.
Take note, however: this variant goes for $63,900.
Toyota has reasonably concluded that many consumers want their truck to be able to do it all, namely be able to handle extreme off-road driving while supplying a high level of luxury for the more-civilized occasions.
