After its October debut, we can expect it at dealerships next spring

When Chevrolet unveiled the new eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette this past June, the company also teased the convertible version still to come by releasing a few images.

It’s common for makers of more-exotic cars to try to maintain interest in a model by delaying the introduction of different variants such as convertibles or more potent editions.

Now we learn that in the case of the open-air C8 Corvette, there won’t be much of a lag at all. In an interview with Motor1, the head of the plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky that will be charged with building the C8 confirmed that the convertible version should be unveiled officially this coming October.

This is great news for impatient fans of the model. An autumn reveal means that in principle, the Corvette convertible should arrive at dealers in the spring of 2020, just in time for the return of warmer temperatures.

We’ll have to wait a few more weeks for further details about the new variant, but its basic mechanics should be the same as the fixed-roof version already unveiled. The powertrain includes a centrally placed 6.2L V8 delivering 490 hp, along with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. We can also expect Z06 and ZR1 variants further down the road.

As for the configuration of the Corvette convertible, it’s expected it will be a hard-top and its deployment will see it positioned above the engine. Which means no surface that allows to see the engine itself, as with the coupe version.

As for the price and launch date of the model in Canada, we’ll to wait before knowing the full details.
