Fresh off the premiere of the new C-Class sedan in Geneva, Mercedes-Benz has now lifted the veil on its C-Class coupe and cabriolet editions, just one week ahead of their own official debuts at the 2018 New York International Auto Show.
The product offer will be largely the same across the three configurations of the new C-Class. This means the AMG C 43, fitted with a 3.0L, 385-hp twin-turbo V6, will also be offered in the coupe and cabriolet formats – a bit of news that will warm the hearts of performance lovers. At the other end of the spectrum, the C300 gets a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo with an output of 255 hp. Relatively speaking, a more reasonable choice…
In all, six models will be available to consumers: rear-wheel drive, 4MATIC and AMG, each in both coupe and cabriolet versions.
For the rest, what differences could be discerned for the refreshed C-Class sedan apply to the two new additions as well. The esthetic changes are relatively minor, touching on the headlights and new colour options for the body, including the Night Passage, made available for the first time on the C-Class cabriolet. The interior will get some new colour choices and new wood trim elements.
The driver will face an immense digital screen that accesses all the info you could think of and then some. This screen is making its debut in the C-Class. The also-new steering wheel gets new commands you barely need to touch to activate, like the adaptive cruise control and the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay applications. The voice recognition system can also execute just about any order you can think up for it.
Mercedes-Benz was also active on the safety front. There are 11 different systems present in the new C-Class. Many provide a window into the steps being taken by several of the big manufacturers regarding autonomous driving.
Buyers will be able to get their hands on a new C-Class cabriolet or coupe later on in 2018. We’ll be keeping you posted as that information gets more precise.
