In as much as the Infiniti I-model is essentially a Nissan Maxima in a really nice suit, it should come as no surprise that the former model is upgraded whenever the latter is.
So Canada's Infiniti dealers are now able to sell upgraded versions of their most popular model, this time with the I35 rather than the I30 moniker, reflecting the larger engine that is the centerpiece of this most recent makeover.
Nissan Canada likes to call this an "evolution" of the second-generation I30, since you won't have any trouble recognizing the old model in the new.
For the record, the 2002 I35 gets that bigger engine, facelifted front and rear styling, standard 17-inch wheels and tires, an upgraded braking system, a stability control system, more exterior colors, more "luxurious" interior appointments, and a different Sport Package.
Prices for the new model start at $39,500, with the Sport model going for $42,500. Both models get the 3.5-litre V6 and a four-speed automatic transmission.
That Sport package includes unique aluminum-alloy wheels and P225/50VR17 performance tires, a Vehicle Dynamic Control system, a "sport-tuned" suspension, and side sill spoilers.
The change drivers will enjoy daily involves the extra power in the DOHC, 24-valve V6. The 255 horsepower at 5800 rpm and 246 pound-feet of torque ratings are increases of 28 and 29, respectively, over the 3-litre engine.
Richard Pendrill, who is the director of Nissan Canada's Infiniti Division, says the changes to the engine involve more than just power. They also include a silent timing chain, an electronically controlled throttle, and a new engine cover for a smoother operation and a slicker look.
