2003 Mitsubishi Lancer - Want something completely different?

The street is buzzing with news about Mitsubishi cars coming to Canada. That said it's not like we've never heard of the brand before. As Canadians we have seen the commercials on ABC, CBS, NBC and other TV stations for years. We've witnessed our American cousins comfortably sitting in their Monteros, Diamantes, Galants, Eclipses and Lancers in border line-ups many a time, pensively wondering why these lucky sods have such diversity in their automotive market.

Well, the wait is over and Mitsubishi is already selling cars through eighteen showrooms across Canada. If there isn't one in your town at the time of this writing (September 6, 2002) then there will probably be one soon. Twenty-two will be added during the next 30 days, and by the end of this year the Mitsubishi dealership list will swell to total 47. Included will be 7 in BC and 7 more in major centers across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. As well Ontario will get 17, Quebec 12 with the remaining 4 designated for Atlantic Canada. Not a bad start to what will eventually tally over 150 dealerships.

Never has a manufacturer initiated the Canadian market with such a full model range. The current 7-vehicle line-up includes three SUVs, a sport coupe and convertible, mid-size sedan and compact sedan. The last car on this list, the sub-$16,000 Lancer, is probably the first Mitsubishi many will own. It's not only priced competitively, but offers an amazing amount of standard features combined with solid Japanese build quality.
