2004 Land Rover Discovery

Incredible 4x4 Talent in a Very Civilized Package

The Discovery just seems to integrate naturally into my neighborhood. The trees from the mountain overhead mingle into my backyard, a small ski resort is only minutes up the road, hiking trails surround, a yacht club is a short drive away down in the cove; truly a perfect backdrop for a vehicle of the Land Rover's capabilities.

Of course the Discovery is at home in the wilderness, but surprisingly it is also suited for city living. (Photo: Shawn Pisio, Canadian Auto Press)
But it's not only the wilderness setting that suits the big SUV. It fits in just as well at the local shopping plaza. Parkgate is not a typical strip mall mind you, but rather an architecturally designed haven for boutique shoppers, including specialty meats, trendy cafes, a wine making store, a sushi bar, traditional Greek bistro, and the list goes on.

The typical Discovery mainly spends its weekends zipping to swap meets, garage sales and bazaars, soccer games and dance classes, rather than traversing a rocky crag. (Photo: Shawn Pisio, Canadian Auto Press)
The latter scenario is probably a closer example of how the king of the mountain spends weekends than the former, zipping to swap meets, garage sales and bazaars, soccer games and dance classes, rather than traversing a rocky crag on the eternal quest for the ultimate viewpoint, fording a river next to a washed out bridge on the way to a remote campsite, or pulling a trailer with a 29' Cobalt 293 atop, readying for a weekend's adventure up an undiscovered estuary.
