2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited: the only true 4x4x4

By ,

Jeep is adding a new four-door version alongside its two-door Wrangler. It uses the same stampings and mechanical elements. DaimlerChrysler christened this new 4x4 the Wrangler Unlimited. It's unlimited compared

to the two-door Wrangler, because it's a real four-door truck that's capable of hauling 4 or 5 passengers and their luggage. Space for 4 As a matter of fact, front and rear passengers all benefit from a comfortable and spacious atmosphere. Access is easy; no need for foot steps to climb in. As for storage space, the trunk can accommodate 1314 litres of cargo. By folding down the split rear seatback, 2456 litres of cargo will fit. The fold-down mechanism is easy to operate, and the headrests ingeniously fold down without touching them. Three versions Just like the Wrangler, the Unlimited is available in base X trim (on which you can get the S package), the more luxurious Sahara, and in Rubicon trim which is just as capable off-road than its smaller brother, the two-door Wrangler. Soft or hard top The Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, loyal to tradition, come standard with a soft top. However, the Jeep division had a brilliant idea by offering

a range of options that allows buyers to equip their vehicles with a variety of hard plastic lateral and roof panels. Thanks to the hard top, you can enjoy the sun by taking off the front panels, which are divided. You only need a few minutes to take them off or put them back on. With the hard top, the vehicle has good sound isolation. Buyers can also choose the dual roof package, which comes with both roofs that they can change in spring and fall. Four-wheel drive The Unlimited gets the same powertrain as the Wrangler with the V6, manual and automatic gearboxes. The transfer cases are the same, but reinforced to fit the longer configuration. All Canadian-spec Wranglers get

transfer cases with low and high ranges in four-wheel drive mode. You can also switch to two-wheel drive. And on the road? We'll have to wait until September to give you our driving impressions, a request from DaimlerChrysler. The Unlimited has the same off-road qualities as the Wrangler, but requires a different approach. We'll soon provide you with a report on both vehicles.
