If the name of Lexus' new flagship is LS460L, what do you suppose we will find under the wider hood? The answer is a 380 hp 4.6L V8. The new LS is larger and longer and sports larger wheels and tires. But most importantly, it is 36% more powerful than the outgoing model and will feature an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Performance will be impressive with a 0 to 60 mph in less than 5.5 seconds and a fuel economy in the mid-20s miles per US gallon. Its stance, although still very much Lexus-like, is sportier and more aggressive. Comfort will be assured by plenty of technologically advanced features such as smart card entry, 19-speaker sound system with a hard disc which can store 4,000 songs, reclinable back seats with individual DVD entertainment systems, cooler and back massagers. Sensor will check the cabin and body temperatures. An automatic park assist system will allow the driver to park with ease. The new LS 460 and LS 460L should arrive this fall.A hybrid version of the big sedan is expected at the upcoming New York auto show. It will likely be called LS600h and join Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive with the V8. The output of the Hybrid could be as high as 500 hp. The gasoline engine would develop 400 hp and the electric motors would combine for 100 hp.
