2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Two-Mode Hybrid

By ,

Sporting what GM calls the world's first two-mode hybrid system, the Tahoe hybrid will offer a 25-percent improvement in fuel economy.
The two-mode hybrid system was developed in a three-way partnership with DaimlerChrysler and BMW. In the first mode, at low speeds, the Tahoe can run on electric power alone, on the engine's power alone, or a combination of the two. The second mode is for high-speed driving, where both the engine and electric assist work together when needed. Passing, pulling a trailer or climbing a hill are good examples. The Tahoe's engine is a Gen IV V8 that produces over 300 horsepower. Visually, an aerodynamic package as well as aluminum panels and wheels all contribute to reducing the mass and drag of this full-size SUV.Next year, you can also look for GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade hybrids.
