2009 Volkswagen Jetta Wagon Preview

By ,

In European-speak, this car is better known as the Golf Variant. Volkswagen compact wagons have been immensely popular in Europe. Since 1993, over 1.2 million have been sold.
The Jetta Wagon is over a foot longer that the Golf/Rabbit and obviously offers a huge boot. The design of the rear quarters may not be to everyone's liking however the large hatch provides a generous opening for easy loading. The remainder of the vehicle is unchanged, both inside and out.In Europe, the 140 hp 1.4L TFSI, 105 hp and 140 TDi engines will be offered amongst the five available. We, meanwhile, will have to make do with the 2.5L 5-cylinder, which will develop 170 horsepower. A new clean diesel 2.0L TDi (most likely BlueMotion) engine is expected a short while after the arrival of the SportWagen. Transmission choices will be between a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic for the 5-pot.
