2012 Audi A7 and Google Street View: a match made in heaven

By ,

When Volkswagen opened the doors of its electronic research lab to the media last week, our friends over at CNET got a glimpse of the German automaker’s most recent innovations. Of all the gadgets they admired, the 2012 A7’s navigation system using Google Street View really got their attention.

By viewing images of their destination, drivers can find their way easier and efficiently locate parking spots.

The application also shows the car moving through a photographic landscape, by way of a Bluetooth capable smartphone that downloads the imagery.

Though the results look promising from an aesthetic standpoint and the system looks nearly ready for launch, Audi says there’s still work to be done to make sure the invention isn’t too distracting and remains safe to use on the road.

We can’t say for sure that Street View navigation will be available on Audi models for the 2012 model year, but the lab’s employees are rather optimistic.
