For the 2012 model year, the Japanese automaker is updating their potent GT-R to deliver even more of the world-class performance, styling and handling that made the original revamped model a hit since it launched a few years back.

Four years into its sales life in the North American market, designers and engineers have specified updated looks, new colours, new features, and of course, even more power. In addition to the standard GT-R, 2012 will see the availability of a new ‘Black Edition’ model which features unique seats, interior colours and wheels. Shoppers will also notice new cosmetic tweaks and integrated LED running lamps for increased visual character.

“The Nissan GT-R continues to be a multidimensional performance machine that lives up to the concept of ‘the ultimate supercar that can be driven by anyone, anytime, anywhere,’” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. “With the enhancements for 2012, including its 530-horsepower twin turbo V6 and revised styling, the GT-R legend continues to grow. We can’t wait for its arrival in Nissan showrooms, and on the streets.”

Aimed at the $200,000 Porsche 911 Turbo S’s power output, the Nissan VR38DETT powerplant has been tweaked to deliver 530 horsepower, an improvement of 45 over the 2011 model. Torque has also been cranked to nearly 450 lb.-ft. Nissan says the improvements come from modifications to the turbocharger system, increased boost pressure, tweaked valve timing and some alterations to the intake and exhaust system to increase airflow.
