2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS: same power, more sportiness

By ,

Christmas came early this year for Chevy fans thanks to General Motors, which revealed the sporty new 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS ahead of the model's official debut at the NAIAS in January.

The aggressive looking package, available in 5-door configuration only, gets a retuned sport exhaust system with chrome tip, a lowered and stiffened suspension, and uniquely styled 17'' wheels that combine to give the Chevrolet Sonic RS sportier handling and character.

Under the hood, however, is the same 1.4L Ecotec turbo engine that generates 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. It teams up with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission that benefits from specific gear ratios.

Inside, expect to find sport seats and pedals, a meatier, flat-bottom steering wheel, plus a new shift- knob for the manual gearbox. Exclusive instrument panel cluster graphics and interior trim colours, along with the brand's MyLink infotainment system, wrap up this cool new ride.

Canadian prices and a market release date for the 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS have yet to be announced.
