2013 Nissan Pathfinder: no more boxy styling! New concept in Detroit will foreshadow the next-generation SUV

By ,

The 2012 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit will welcome the Nissan Pathfinder Concept, which offers a sneak peek at the major changes that will define the next-generation model when it goes on sale next fall.

An intriguing picture released by the Japanese automaker shows that the Pathfinder's signature boxy styling will morph into a collection of smooth curves, probably in similar fashion to the brand new 2013 Infiniti JX crossover.

A number of Pathfinder staples will remain, however, including four-wheel drive and 7-passenger seating capability.

Nissan will also use the Detroit spotlights to unveil an innovative electric van concept that hints at a future production version of an all-electric vehicle designed to provide businesses or families with spacious, flexible cargo room. A Nissan NV van converted into a food truck will be on display as well.

But as far as the main dish is concerned, fans of the Pathfinder will have to wait until January 9th, 2012 a.k.a. Media Day at the NAIAS to get a complete look. Of course, Auto123.com will be on hand to bring you full coverage.
