Pros and cons*
Pros

The Volvo XC70 is one of the very few wagons available in our market. Its comfortable seats provide ample support, the rear seats are spacious, it offers convenient rear-seat configurations and a modern, ergonomically-friendly interior that give it a distinct competitive advantage.

Cons
The base engine lacks power, which contributes to the overall lack of sportiness of this model. A high centre of gravity, long turning radius, and thirsty engine are among the weak points.

Price
The 2013 Volvo XC70 with standard engine sells for $42,400. All-wheel drive is standard, as well as its 16-inch wheels, heated seats, and Bluetooth.

The Premier version is equipped with standard leather seats and power sun roof. It has a MSRP of $45,900.
The Premier Plus, at $48,100, is equipped with a power tailgate, bi-xenon directional headlights and parking assist.

For $51,400, the Platinum model comes with standard navigations system, Premium Sound audio system and backup camera.

The most affordable turbocharged model starts at $47,000. Two additional versions are available, the premier Plus, at $49,200, and the Platinum, at $52,500.

Fuel Economy
The base engine consumes 11.6 L/100 km city and 8.2 L/100 km highway. The turbocharged version is rated at 12.1 L/100 km city and 8.5 L/100 km highway.

Exterior Styling

This family wagon resembles a crossover in many ways. The distinctive grille with trademark Volvo emblem and wraparound headlights give it a friendly demeanor. The foglights are integrated into silver-coloured rectangles that add to its charm. The front bumper guard certainly contributes to its crossover-like looks.

New for 2013

A sport mode has been added to the automatic transmission in the turbocharged version.

Drivetrain
The entry-level in-line 3.2 litre 6-cylinder engine produces 240 hp and 236 lb-ft torque.
The optional turbocharged in-line 3.0 litre 6-cylinder engine delivers 300 hp and 325 lb-ft torque.
The 6-speed "Geartronic" driver-adaptive automatic transmissions are hooked up to an all-wheel drive system.

Cargo capacity

The trunk in itself holds an impressive 944 litres, which expands to 2042 litres with lowered seats.

Safety
This all-wheel drive family wagon is equipped with six airbags and numerous active safety systems.
