2015 Geneva Motor Show: Debut of Aston Martin DBX Concept

By ,

Aston Martin took a lot of people by surprise at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show by introducing the innovative DBX Concept. It starts an exploration of all-electric Aston Martin cars with all-wheel drive.

Blending CUV and coupe body styles, the Aston Martin DBX Concept is motivated by four in-wheel motors fed by a lithium-sulfur battery pack. It also features a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) and drive-by-wire electric steering. No other technical specifications were provided by the company.

The DBX Concept’s unique paint finish – Black Pearl Chromium – has been specially created to mimic the look of a genuine black pearl, and comprises a micro-fine layer of chrome to deliver a level of reflectivity that cannot be obtained through normal paint finishes. Inside the clean and sumptuous cabin, the extensive application of velvet-like Nubuck leather contrasts with the concept’s hard, hi-tech equipment.

Would a production DBX enjoy more success than the ill-fated Cygnet (a re-badged Scion iQ), which abruptly ended its run after just 150 units? It sure is more attractive and would capitalize on the growing popularity of crossovers and EVs.
