The next-generation 2016 Kia Optima made its debut today at the New York Auto Show, the same place where the previous model was unveiled five years ago.
In North America, the new Kia Optima will offer three engine choices, including a new 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces an estimated 178 horsepower through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The other two are carried over from the outgoing generation: a 185-horsepower, 2.4L GDI 4-cylinder and a 247-horsepower 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder. They come with a 6-speed Sportmatic automatic transmission.
While exterior dimensions remain largely unchanged, the interior is significantly more spacious with extra head room, shoulder room and rear seat leg room.
Sales of the 2016 Kia Optima will begin in the fourth quarter of 2015. Pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch date.
