First images of Lexus ES Released Official Reveal Set for Beijing

By ,

First came the nose ; now Lexus has released a first full-body image of its next-generation 2019 ES. The revised new edition of the luxury sedan will get its official unveiling at the end of this month at the Beijing Motor Show.

Decked in Lexus’ distinctive front spindle grille - now showing on the NX and RX SUVs, notably - and featuring a more streamlined body shape, the new generation of the Lexus ES will be based in good part on Toyota’s Avalon sedan. Like that model it will be built on the new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. The ES will even be assembled at the automaker’s plant in Georgetown, Kentucky, the same factory that produces the… Avalon.

The large ES sedan has been a popular North American model for Lexus, though more so south of the border than here in Canada. But sales have slowed recently, just as they have for virtually all sedans. The bet is that the bold revisions made to the next-gen 2019 will kick-start interest in the model.

We’ve also included some images from a video released at the same time as the full-body picture. We’ll know a lot more about its insides when the Beijing show gets underway, and of course we’ll have full coverage of that event.
