Chevrolet unveils next-gen 2020 Silverado HD The HD version’s styling is inspired by heavy machinery

By ,

Chevrolet has just shown the face of its next-gen rugged full-size pickup, the Silverado HD. Scheduled to debut next year as a 2020 model, the truck gets futuristic styling sure to stir up heated debates.

That starts right from the front grille, which makes quite a statement to lead off. And making a statement is precisely what the company set out to do in wanting to clearly differentiate the HD from the regular model.

For the rest, we see the visual cues of the next-gen Silverado 1500 all around the HD. GM does point out however that the roof is the only component the regular versions and the HD share. Elsewhere, several of the upgrades brought to the ultra-rugged version are the fruit of changes made when designing the lighter-duty variant – an example is the system for managing towing operations.

On board, an additional 7 cm of rear legroom has been added in the crew cab version, and the driving position is more elevated and upright.

Mechanically, owners will benefit from a new engine bloc, which will get a 6-speed automatic transmission as a dancing partner. The other choice will be the celebrated Duramax turbodiesel V8 engine; it will work in tandem with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission to deliver a jaw-dropping 910 lb-fr of torque.

The 2020 Silverado HD will be officially presented in the flesh next February, and obviously we’ll then know much more about its inner workings and features.
