2020 Chrysler Pacifica: 10 Things Worth Knowing Why change the configuration of the minivan from 8 seats to none? Because we could

# 9 The black sheep

So, the third-row seats and the two outside seats in the second row have obeyed your commands and disappeared in the floor of your Pacifica. Anything left to get in the way of sliding in a full-size pool table? Well yes: the middle’s middle seat, the uncomfortable seat no one wants to be stuck in, and the one that doesn’t even exist in the 7-seat configuration of the minivan that features two captain’s chairs in row two. What to do with this unloved child, which stubbornly refuses to disappear under the floor? Toss it out.

At floor level, look for the strap – yes, another one! Pull on it and the anchors behind the seat disengage. For this operation I’m now on my knees, and as I grab hold to pull the chair up and way, it goes well… until it doesn’t. The seat’s blocked by its seat belt that comes down from the roof of the vehicle.

Not sure how to get rid of this nuisance, I mess with it for five minutes before realizing that the attachment on the seat near the cushion has a small red slit. I suppose maybe I should press it in, but with what? How about the metal tongue on the seatbelt strap, the one normally used to buckle in? Wouldn’t you know that sticking that thing in the other thing makes the seatbelt detach from and release the seat. Chrysler even provided a small nest on the roof to stow the now unneeded seatbelt. And thus I’m able to extract the eighth seat from the Pacifica. Mission accomplished.

# 10 The inevitable question of cost

My 2020 Pacifica Touring comes with a base price of $43,495, and costs a total of $49,665 with options and freight charges. Those going for the most-affordable L version will pay $37,995 or more. As for the PHEV version, it starts at $53,095.

Looking farther ahead, the 2021 Pacifica is set to launch in the last quarter of this year. The big news concerning that new edition is that all-wheel drive will be an option (except for in the PHEV), just like the Sienna. We don’t know about pricing year, but we do know there will be a 2020 Pacifica AWD Launch Edition tagged starting at $50,090.
