• Auto123 reviews the 2026 Mini Cooper C 3-door.
The 2026 Mini Cooper C 3-door serves as the entry point to the refreshed internal combustion engine (ICE) Mini lineup. While the fully electric models sit on a brand-new platform co-developed in China, the gas-powered Cooper C wraps updated exterior styling and a minimalist cabin around a tweaked version of the previous generation's proven chassis and suspension.
2026 Mini Cooper C 3-door – What’s new?
Although some were sceptical that Mini could convincingly update a decade-old design to remain competitive with this new-gen car, the vehicle delivers a thoroughly modern driving experience.
It balances an improved, calmer highway ride with improved build quality and fresh interior aesthetics. The refresh from 2025 advances the styling while retaining the classic character buyers expect. The car remains a unique entry in an underpopulated class of premium small cars.
Where is the 2026 Mini Cooper C 3-door assembled?
The 2026 Mini Cooper C 3-door is built at the BMW Group's Mini Plant Oxford in England.
Powertrain of the 2026 Mini Cooper C 3-door - 9.0/10
Under the hood, the Cooper C offered in Canada features a 2.0L TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine generating 161 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission; manual transmissions are no longer offered for Minis. This setup can propel the hatchback from 0 to 100 km/h in roughly 7.7 seconds.
Fuel economy ratings from Natural Resources Canada place the model at 8.6L/100 km city, 6.0L/100 km highway, and 7.4L/100 km combined. Our average after a week of driving sat at a disappointing 10.1L/100 km, which to be fair could partly be blamed on some non-conservative driving on our part.
Design of the 2026 Mini Cooper C 3-door - 8.5/10
The Cooper C 3-door carries forward the iconic hatchback proportions while incorporating modern styling elements. Up front, standard LED headlights with cornering functions illuminate the road, while 17-inch wheels anchor its stance. A standard panoramic glass sunroof lets in natural light, enhancing the overall cabin environment.
Despite its compact size, utility is boosted by the hatchback layout. The rear hatch offers 252 litres of cargo space behind the 60-40 split rear bench, expanding to 974 litres with the seats folded down. While the second row is tight and best suited for children or small adults, folding it flat easily accommodates larger cargo like musical equipment. Outward visibility is somewhat hampered by thick pillars and a high belt-line.
Interior of the 2026 Mini Cooper C 3-door - 8.0/10
Inside, the cabin features a minimalist esthetic with high-quality materials and quirky bits of design that set it apart from rivals. Build quality matches retro design details that pay homage to the original Mini. Highlights include a fat-rimmed steering wheel with hard-button controls, a fabric-covered dashboard and a fabric lower steering wheel spoke.

Below the central screen, a toggle array mimics the classic Mini control panel with switches for gear selection, Experience modes, and a twist fob for engine start-stop. Physical volume controls remain, though all HVAC adjustments are handled through the display screen.
Technology in the 2026 Mini Cooper C 3-door - 8.0/10
In the 2026 Mini Cooper C, central technology is anchored by a 9.4-inch circular OLED touchscreen developed in conjunction with Samsung. The screen boasts high resolution, rapid responsiveness, and up to seven Mini Experience modes (including Go-Kart, Timeless, Core, Vivid and Green). Each mode changes the ambient atmosphere, such as the steampunk-inspired graphics in Timeless mode.
The infotainment system pairs seamlessly with Apple CarPlay, though it requires some initial learning. Drivers also benefit from a dash-top flip-up head-up display, which serves as the primary readout in the driver's direct line of sight. Standard safety and connectivity features include the Driving Assistant safety suite, Digital Key Plus, and Mini Experience modes.
Driving the 2026 Mini Cooper C 3-door - 8.0/10
On the road, the engine comes across as refined, offering mid-range turbo torque, increased isolation, and a smooth, effortless highway cruise. That good-natured growl of Mini vehicle engines is still just as present.
Dig a little deeper, and the signature handling DNA remains intact. In Go Kart mode, the car sharpens throttle response, firms up the steering, pipes a synthetic engine growl into the cabin, and adjusts transmission shift maps to hold the ideal gear through sweepers or heavy braking.
Especially in that mode, but not exclusively so, the suspension can feel a little firm when the road gets rougher and the driver remains aggressive. With this relatively lightweight vehicle, you may find yourself bouncing around a little in your seat. Part of the fun? Sure, but not all your passengers may agree. That obviously cuts into its appeal as a small family car.
Handling and road agility overall is excellent, the car proving a dedicated road hugger on some twisty country roads I had occasion to take it on (long as the road is smooth, I repeat). And when time comes to tone it down in a hurry, the braking has solid bite.
