Just one year after introducing the 4th-generation Passport, Honda is upgrading its rugged midsize SUV for the 2027 model-year. Sold exclusively in the TrailSport trim in Canada, the utility model receives significant chassis modifications, bolder styling cues and expanded standard technology aimed squarely at off-road enthusiasts. The updated model is expected to arrive in Canadian dealerships later this fall.
2027 Honda Passport TrailSport – What’s new?
The headline improvement for the 2027 Passport TrailSport is a boosted ride height, offering 245 mm of ground clearance. That’s 35 mm more than the outgoing model, and it sends a clear message to the competition. Speaking of, Honda says the new Passport’s clearance surpasses those of the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium and Subaru Outback Wilderness.
Rather than using simple spacer lifts, Honda engineers redesigned some 70 per cent of the major suspension and chassis components. In total, 28 parts were modified or newly developed, including the springs, dampers, control arms, stabilizer bars, steering knuckles, rear driveshafts and front subframe.
All of that serves to improve the SUV’s off-road geometry, yielding approach and departure angles of 25 degrees (a 2-degree increase) and a breakover angle of 23 degrees (up 3 degrees). On pavement, Honda claims retuned steering provides sharper, more responsive handling for everyday driving.
Technology in the 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport
To assist drivers on technical trails, Honda has made its TrailWatch camera system standard equipment across all TrailSport models. Previously reserved for higher trims, TrailWatch provides four distinct camera views—front, rear, side, and 360-degree—alongside real-time wheel-position graphics to help navigate blind obstacles. A heated steering wheel also becomes standard.
Design of the 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport
Visually, the 2027 edition features more pronounced fender flares, a redesigned lower front bumper and new amber LED accent lights integrated directly into the hood scoop, complementing the model's signature amber daytime running lights.
The Blackout package gains fresh black bumper trim matched to 18-inch black alloy wheels and dark badging. Smoke Blue Pearl joins the exterior colour palette.
Powertrain of the 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport
Mechanically, the Passport retains its naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and Honda's torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system. The SUV continues to be built exclusively at Honda's assembly plant in Lincoln, Alabama.
Canadian pricing has yet to be announced, but a slight increase is anticipated over the current model, which starts at just above $60,000.
