Jeep continues the year-long rollout of its Twelve 4 Twelve series with the 2027 Wrangler JL-2A. This 11th special edition of the collection highlights the civilian origins of the brand by drawing inspiration from the Willys CJ-2A launched in 1945.
Built on the Wrangler Rubicon, the JL-2A adopts several styling elements associated with its ancestor while retaining the off-road capability of the current model. It will be available for order in Canada starting in October 2026. Pricing for the package has been set at $6,995 in addition to the base price of the vehicle.
From the military Willys to the CJ-2A
Introduced in July 1945, the Willys CJ-2A was a civilian adaptation of the Willys MB military vehicle. It also launched the CJ nameplate, short for Civilian Jeep.
Assembled in Toledo, Ohio, it was intended in particular for farmers, ranchers and industrial workers. Compared to the military vehicle, it featured, among other innovations, a tailgate, rear power take-off (PTO) and larger headlights. It also sported a certain seven-slot grille that would go on to become one of Jeep's signature visual cues.
The colour combinations offered with that original model served as the starting point for the new edition. The Gobi paint finish, returning for 2027, recalls the Harvest Tan shade of the CJ-2A, and it will be available on the two-door body style, while the four-door model will notably be offered in the colour dubbed '41. Bright White, Joose, Sting Gray and Ghost (arriving later) are also in the catalogue.
Retro details on a Rubicon base
The Wrangler JL-2A features 17-inch retro wheels painted in an orange shade, there to pay homage to the Sunset Red wheels of the original model; they’re wrapped in 33-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires.
Jeep adds orange tow hooks at the front and rear, body-colour fender flares, a three-piece hardtop and dark metallic grey trim within the grille.
The cabin adopts a colour scheme previously unseen in the Wrangler lineup. The seats are upholstered in Heritage Tan Nappa leather, while the door panels, lower dashboard and centre console feature a Bison Brown finish. Desert Orange stitching ties back to the colour of the wheels.
A few details more directly highlight the heritage of the CJ-2A, including a Willys-Overland medallion on the gear selector and a plaque affixed to the tailgate. The plaque features agricultural and industrial graphics inspired by the data plate of the 1945 model.
The Convenience package, which includes remote start, as well as the TrailCam forward-facing camera with washer, comes standard.
