Lexus is bringing major enhancements to the NX for the 2027 model-year. Most notably, the compact luxury SUV will now be offered exclusively with hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, marking the discontinuation of gas-only variants.

2027 Lexus NX – What’s new?

Expected in global markets by the end of 2026, the now-full-electrified 2027 Lexus NX also benefits from updated styling, a modernized cabin and several modifications aimed at improving driving dynamics.

In Canada, the lineup will feature three trim levels, each offered with a hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain alongside standard all-wheel drive.

Powertrains of the 2027 Lexus NX

The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid receives a new lithium-ion battery with 30-percent greater capacity. Lexus estimates that select versions will be able to travel more than 64 km in all-electric mode. Official Natural Resources Canada data is not yet available.

Output from the battery also increases, by 8 percent. Additionally, Lexus revised the hybrid system's management to better coordinate the electric motor and the gas engine, particularly during acceleration and energy transitions between the two sources.

DC fast charging will now come standard on plug-in hybrid variants. However, maximum charging capacity and the time required to recharge the battery have not yet been specified.

Repositioning the battery cells enabled a lower centre of gravity and increased lateral body rigidity. The hybrid system also uses a new assembly uniting the transaxle, electric motor and power control unit into a smaller and lighter format.

A revised chassis
Lexus reinforced several sections of the 2027 NX’s unibody structure, notably at the front and rear and under the floor. The suspension towers were also redesigned.

Engineers recalibrated the suspension, steering, accelerator and braking system. The steering wheel actually shrinks, to a 360-mm diameter, and it’s paired with a variable steering ratio on all trims. A new function can also apply light braking pressure in corners to help stabilize the vehicle during abrupt manoeuvres.

The electronic all-wheel drive system was also revised. The rear electric motor can now remain active during normal driving, rather than engaging only during launches, loss of traction or cornering. One benefit of this adjustment is increased stability on snow and other slippery surfaces, the company says.

Inside the cabin, all versions now feature a 14-inch touchscreen for the Lexus Interface system. It accompanies a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. An integrated drive recorder using exterior cameras is also included in the announced equipment.

Technology in the 2027 Lexus NX

The 2027 Lexus NX comes standard with the Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, which improves detection capabilities and several driver assistance features.

Pricing and detailed lineup breakdown for Canada will be revealed at a later date. Note that hybrid versions will continue to be assembled in Cambridge, Ontario, while plug-in hybrid models will be sourced from Japan.
