Mitsubishi is expanding the lineup of its most popular model in Canada with the 2028 Outlander Diamond Trail Edition. Designed as the brand’s most off-road-capable Outlander to date, the trail-focused crossover arrives as the first entry under Mitsubishi’s Momentum 2030 business strategy.
The SUV will get its in-person christening at SEMA 2026 next week. That event in Las Vegas marks Mitsubishi’s first appearance at SEMA since 2012.
Auto123 will be on hand for the big unveiling, but until then, we have pretty pictures to look, and some details regarding the model’s specs and performance particularities.
2028 Mitsubishi Outlander Diamond Trail Edition – Pricing and availability
Canadian sales are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027, with pricing details to follow in the coming months.
2028 Mitsubishi Outlander Diamond Trail Edition – What’s new?
Mechanical upgrades focus on increasing off-pavement performance. Redesigned front and rear bumpers improve the approach angle from 18.3 to 20.5 degrees and the departure angle from 22.2 to 23.1 degrees.
The vehicle's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) four-wheel-drive system introduces a new Rock Mode, which uses accelerated, brake-based traction control to suppress wheel slip faster than existing driving modes. Selecting Rock Mode automatically engages Hill Descent Control with an adjustable hold speed for navigating uneven or rocky terrain.
Driver information systems receive corresponding updates:
- - A new instrument cluster screen displays real-time front-wheel steering angle, individual wheel slip, and traction-control activity.
- - The Multi-View Camera System remains active at speeds up to 30 km/h, extending functional surround-view visibility from the 10 km/h threshold found on standard models.
Design of the 2028 Mitsubishi Outlander Diamond Trail Edition
Visually, the Diamond Trail features a matte black grille, black Dynamic Shield trim, blacked-out headlamp surrounds and over-fenders. It rides on exclusive 18 x 7.5-inch black alloy wheels fitted with Nexen Roadian ATX all-terrain tires. Raised roof rails facilitate top-mounted cargo setups.
Mitsubishi has also added a new Trail Green Metallic paint option, which can be specified with a contrasting white roof.

Inside, the cabin is fitted with dark grey, water-repellent upholstery featuring khaki contrast stitching. Dark chrome, dark satin and textured matte black trim accents appear throughout, accompanied by Diamond Trail logos embroidered on the seat backs, floor mats and door panels.
