24h of Dubai: Jeroen Bleekemolen puts Team Abu Dhabi on pole

By ,

Dutchman Jeroen Bleekemolen has slotted Team Abu Dhabi in pole position, ahead of the 2013 Dunlop 24 Hours of Dubai, at the Dubai Autodrome.

To do so, Bleekemolen turned a lap of 1min59.104s, aboard the team's No. 1 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, which he shares with Sean Edwards, Khaled Al Qubaisi and Bernd Schneider.

The pole almost came as a surprise for Team Abu Dhabi.

Indeed, the primary car having been smashed while testing Wednesday, the team had to fetch a replacement before qualifying. Luckily, it found one at Preci-Spark, a rival outfit that had brought a spare.

Mechanics had to work overnight just to get the car on track.

Attempto Racing (No. 26 Porsche 997 GT3 R) and Craft Racing AMR (No. 15 Aston Martin Vantage GT3) complete the top three. In total, seven manufacturers (Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini and Aston Martin) are represented in the top 10.

The first Corvette is only 23rd, and the first Audi, 24th.

The 82-car field takes the green flag Friday, at 2 pm (5 am EST).
