Exactly two weeks ago, Autoblog Green reported that Porsche was planning to use an F1-style Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) to improve fuel economy across its entire range without sacrificing performance. However, a high-level source just responded by qualifying the project as ''nonsense''.
''The new 911 will not be offered with hybrid drive for the foreseeable future. The system is currently applied to a race car. Nothing else is planned'', the insider said, adding that if and when the 911 goes hybrid, it will most likely happen as a plug-in.
This statement rings true with Panamera Hybrid development chief Michael Steiner, who rejected any scenario involving an extended-range Porsche with a technology similar to the Chevrolet Volt.
As a result, Volvo now appears to be the only automaker considering the integration of KERS in future products.
