Acura to abandon the RL, no more gas-powered Civics in Japan?

According to Reuters, Honda will phase out the Legend Sedan and the Elysion minivan in Japan to concentrate on small, lower-priced cars.

In our market, the Legend is known as the Acura RL , which used to be called the Legend when the Acura brand was launched back in the mid-80s. A slow-seller, the RL is likely to be discontinued, as relocated its production seems highly improbable.

In addition, only hybrid versions of the Civic would soon be sold in Japan, which means conventional gas-powered Civics will no longer be offered. That shouldn’t disrupt the Civic’s standing in North America, as the car is produced on our side of the ocean anyway.
