Advanced all-wheel drive for the new 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S

Recently, the Stuttgart-based automaker unveiled the all-new, mildly upgraded 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera . Now, the all-wheel drive variant gets the same treatment. Both the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S will be available in coupe and cabriolet configurations. For 2009, the all-wheel drive system has been revised and improved with the addition of Porsche Traction Management (PTM). Developed for the 911 Turbo, the latter makes the car even more precise and much more responsive than in previous years.
Under the hood are the same horizontally-opposed six-cylinder engines, but this time, with direct injection. As a result, fuel economy and total output are improved. The base 3.6L unit now generates 345 horsepower (+20), while the 3.8L of the Carrera 4S produces 385 horsepower. Teamming up with these powerplants are two transmissions. The 6-speed manual is unchanged, while the Tiptronic autobox has been replaced by a new twin-clutch transmission called PDK. Offering 7 forward gears, it does a much better job of getting the most out of the engine and increasing its efficiency.
