Alex Zanardi , who lost both legs following an accident in the ChampCar series in 2001, is targeting a place in the Italian Cycling Team at the Paralympic Games in London in 2012.

Zanardi had both legs amputated after a heavy collision in the Lausitz ChampCar race in 2001.

He amazingly returned to competition in 2003, and currently lies 12th in World Touring Car Championship, with a victory at Brno in June.

He has also practicing Para Cycling for years, and has recently clinched a 14th position in the Para Cycling World Championships in Italy. Zanardi is now targeting a participation in the 2012 Paralympic, according to British magazine Autosport.

“My honest objective is to be at the level of the best Italian bikers and to finish in the top half of the classification, he said, waiting for a dream that could come true in London in 2012,” said Zanardi.
