Underscores new direction for Acura's luxury brand

TORONTO (January 5, 2003) ? The all-new 2004 Acura TSX luxury sport sedan made its world debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit today, adding to Acura's lineup a luxury sports sedan to compliment Acura's popular RSX sports coupe and 3.2 TL luxury performance sedan. It also marks the first use of side curtain airbags by an Acura product in Canada.

"The TSX is designed to compete with the best luxury sport sedans from Europe and Japan," said Dave Gardner, Acura's National Sales Manager for Canada.

"With a 200-horsepower engine, 6-speed manual transmission, nimble suspension and an abundance of luxury and safety features, the TSX will have what it takes to be successful in the luxury sport sedan market," Gardner said. "It also signifies a more stylish and refined product direction as the Acura brand moves upward in Canada's luxury performance arena."

The 2004 TSX sport sedan features a 2.4-litre DOHC, i-VTEC engine that generates 200 horsepower at 6800 rpm and 166 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm. The i-VTEC "intelligent" valve-control system adjusts valve timing for enhanced performance across a broad power band in addition to improved fuel economy and reduced exhaust emissions.

The TSX is equipped with a drive-by-wire throttle control system for smooth acceleration and a close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission for precise control of the powerful engine. A performance-oriented 5-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission is available as an option.
