ALMS: Alex Popow, EJ Viso and Burt Frisselle make CORE's Sebring line-up

CORE autosport has elected Alex Popow, EJ Viso and Burt Frisselle as its drivers for the No. 06 Soloson Import LMPC car, when the ALMS season kicks-off on March 17th, at the 12 Hours of Sebring .

36-year-old Popow earned his way up the racing ladder in his native Venezuela, before making is Grand-Am debut, with Starworks in the DP class. In 2012, he most famously helped the team to a second place finish.

"I originally was planning to do the WEC season, but plans changed and I wanted to run in ALMS instead," Popow said in on the series' website.

"[So] I contacted […] Peter Baron, Starworks team owner and Ryan Dalziel, who is a good friend of mine. Peter is good friends with Jon Bennett [CORE autosport team owner] and of course Ryan drove for the team in 2011. They told me that CORE had a car available, a winning car that could fight for the championship with the right co-driver."

He will be joined by IndyCar regular EJ Viso –the 26-year-old KV Racing Technology driver, also from Venezuela– and Burt Frisselle – son of two-time 12 Hours of Sebring winner Brad Frisselle.

Viso is expected to be back in the car further along the season, as long as the ALMS and IndyCar schedules don't clash.
