ALMS: Another Green Fuel in 2010

By ,

Isobutanol, a “new advanced bio race fuel utilizing isobutanol and ethanol”, reads the communiqué, has officially been approved as fuel for the ALMS cars in 2010.

Dyson Racing will race on Isobutanol, a product developed by one of its partners, BP. The Lola B09/86 of the LMP2 championship driven by Chris Dyson, Guy Smith and Andy Meyrick will used this new green fuel starting with the season opener, the Twelve Hours of Sebring, this coming Saturday.

“The experiment serves as another example of our participating manufacturers, teams and partners working hand-in-hand with the American Le Mans Series to develop, produce and display tomorrow’s automotive advancements and innovations in today’s motorsports environment,” said Scott Atherton, series president and CEO.

BP and development partner DuPont already brought Butamax Advanced Biofuels to the sport. It is investing on Isobutanol now because this solution offers “high octane and greater energy density” then other similar products.
