Stefan Mucke, Adrian Fernandez and Harold Primat won the ModSpace American Le Mans Monterey, at Laguna Seca, for Aston Martin Racing. Runner-up Chris Dyson, Guy Smith and Jay Cochran clinched the LMP1 team and driver championships for Dyson racing, according to ALMS' official website.
"Nobody made a mistake and she (the car) was fast today", said Mucke. "It’s our first win in the American Le Mans Series, and the race started well, but then we had contact twice and after that, we never thought we could win. I am really happy and thanks to everybody."
Second place was a fantastic result for Dyson Racing, in this scenario.
"I’m really thrilled for the team", Dyson said. "It’s a huge accomplishment to end up on top [in the championship]."
The GT race yielded similar results for the protagonists. Patrick Long and Jörg Bergmeister won the race for Flying Lizard, aboard their Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, but the team and driver championships went to the runner-up team. Joey Hand and Dirk Müller got the job done for BMW Team RLL.
"A drivers championship for me, with competition level that strong… is fantastic", Hand said.
It could be said the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid won the GT race, since it finished ahead of Bergmeister and Long. But the car was ran as an unclassified entry.
Chris Bouchut, Luis Diaz and Scott Tucker converted their pole in a race win for Level 5 Motorsports. Their brand new HPD ARX 01g ran well all weekend.
Intersport Racing's Kyle Marcelli, David Ducote and Chapman Ducote's pole didn't translate into a win however, in LMP Challenge. They placed third, behind Elton Julian, Eric Lux and Michael Guasch (Genoa Racing) and Gunnar Jeannette, Ricardo Gonzalez and Rudy Junco (Core autosport)
Good pit strategy earned Spencer Pumpelly, Duncan Ende and Peter Ludwig (TRG) the win over Jeroen Bleekemolen, Sebastian Bleekemolen and Tim Pappas (Black Swan Racing) in GT Challenge.
