AMA Superbike: Who else but Mladin

By ,

Saturday, at Barber Motorsports Park the Rockstar Makita Yoshimura Suzuki's Mat Mladin grabbed a second consecutive convincing AMA Superbike win (the 65th victory of his illustrious career). Meanwhile, Ben Spies crashed out of second on the second lap of the contest. Spies uncharacteristically fell while in pursuit of his rival, sliding into the gravel and struggling to restart his GSX-R1000.He still managed an eleventh-place finish.Early in the race a fantastic battle for second developed, involving Yamaha USA teammates Eric Bostrom and Jason DiSalvo, American Honda's Miguel DuHamel, Monster Energy Kawasaki's Jamie Hacking, and Jordan Suzuki's Aaron Yates, at least until DiSalvo sliced into the runner-up position and started opening up a gap back to third.Tommy Hayden eventually broke the race for third as Hacking settled into fourth, Bostrom and DuHamel faded to sixth and seventh, respectively, and Yates retired late with an ailing machine.
