By ,

Audi is making a foray into the premium compact SUV segment with the all-new Q5 . Largely inspired from its big brother, the Q7 , this model is slightly sportier-looking. We've learned that three powertrains will be available with the Audi Q5, including two diesels. The entry-level model will get a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine featuring direct injection -- good for 211 horsepower and 258 lbs-ft of torque. The company promises a combined fuel economy rating of 8.5 L/100 km. A 6-speed manual transmission will be standard.
Meanwhile, the 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine will generate 170 horsepower and 258 lbs-ft of torque while averaging an impressive 6.7 L/100 km. Finally, the top-of-the-line model will boast a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 producing 240 horsepower and up to 369 lbs-ft of torque. Fuel economy is reportedly rated at 7.5 L/100 km. All three engines can be mated to a 7-speed twin-clutch transmission. No word yet on which of these powerplants will be available to Canadians. photo: Volkswagen
