August 2010 sales

By ,

Summer is over, or just about, and we're sure that a number of manufacturers are very happy about this fact. Traditionally, the warm season marks a slow-down in sales but given that the 2011 model-year is already well under way, some brands managed to thrive last month.

Fashion and appearances being what they are, luxury car-makers fared very well. Audi yanked an extra 30.1% in sales over the same period last year. Infiniti also did well seeing their new car deliveries climb by 29.1%. On a smaller scale but with a big jump, Land Rover garnished a supplemental 55.2% (208 vs. 134) in new car sales.

In the real World, Subaru comes out on top with 20.0% more happy customers than last year. Kia lands in second place with a +16.2% reading in the “sale” column. Chrysler brings up the rear with an increase of 11.7%.

In the “we hate summer” class, Mitsubishi and Toyota post -31.1% and -30.5% numbers for the month of August 2010. To make matters a little worse, Toyota's Lexus luxury brand also posted negative numbers with an 18.2% decline in deliveries. Suzuki's sales have not been very lustrous over the last while and unfortunately, things are not changing for the better. Last month, sales dropped 23.7%. We're willing to guess that the coming of the new Swift cannot happen swiftly enough...
